Traffic and Access
The transportation of materials to and from site, including concrete and stone, turbine structural components, and the erection cranes, pose a range of challenges. The longest turbine section to be delivered – a turbine blade - would be around 40m in length. The heaviest component of the type of turbine considered for Wear Point is the nacelle (the hub), which weighs over 100 tonnes.
A local port study was undertaken to examine a number of local ports and their related onward road routes for suitability to offload turbine components, and access for transporter vehicles. Fishguard was identified as the most suitable port location.
